Sire: Harzand

Colour: Bay

Dam: Djumama

Sex: Colt

Age: 1

Foaled: Mar 08, 2018

Country: Great Britain

Trainer: David Menuiser

Description

This Colt is by the G1 Irish Derby & G1 Epsom Derby winner Harzand. He was a cracking buy at the BBAG Sales in Germany. A lovely type with very good balance and movement who is out of a champion Group 1 winning mare Djumama who has thrown 2 group class horses.

Status

Heading to the farm for a short rest and then will be broken in.

The Plan:

The plan with this nice horse is we will get him to the UK and then get him broken in over the next month.

Once broken In he will start his new life as a racehorse where David Menuisier will start the process of educating him on what his job is.

This education period is quite dull in terms of excitement but its very informative and import the horse is taken through this process with good educators.

As a back up plan because this horse is lovely and sound and a fantastic type our intention is to race him and hopefully win a big race over the Royal Ascot Carnival. However not all horses get to this level and we won’t really know what we are dealing with until the horse is stronger and more educated.

His pedigree and looks give us confidence in running in quality races. But if he isn’t as fast a horse as we all hope the plan will be to make his form and record look as good as possible on paper and then on-sell him to Asia, or America where they pay good money for moderate horses still.

We recently sold a filly to America for $200,000 that we only paid $20,000 for and whilst this doesn’t happen all the time it’s certainly common.

Given we haven’t paid a lot for the horse this gives us plenty of wriggle room and a way to still make a profit if he’s not fast.

Why We Love Him?

Physically: He has good power all round, especially in his rear and hind leg.

Movement: A must for us and he moves great. A nice loose loping action he is well balanced and covers a lot of ground.

Harzand: Was a sensational racehorse winning the G1 Irish Derby and G1 Epsom Derby. Although an unknown sire his sire Sea The Stars is a star sire and given the good female side in the sire line we think Harzand will prove a fantastic sire himself.

Dam / Mother: The dam here was more than handy winning 3 times including the G1 Premio Lydia Tesio and she was the Champion of her generation. From 3 horses to race she has thrown 3 winners already and two of them have been Group Horses.

Overall we really like the colt and he is a big chance for success. He is bred to run at 1400m (7 furlongs) and will eventually get to 12 furlongs (2400m).
