At first look, with 9 starts next to his name and just 1 win and 6 placings, you could be forgiven for thinking he is a non-winner.

But a look at his sectionals and ratings suggest, not only has he got Saturday grade ability, but he may benefit from being raced over shorter trips.

MACLEAY is a $70k yearling who went through the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale in 2019.

Previously trained by Gerald Ryan the 3yo Gelding has been a regular City performer with placings at Randwick, Warwick Farm & Canterbury.

“I have admired this horse on form for a long time. His ratings are excellent and Gerald has done a good job with him but we are going to try and sharpen him up and run him over sprinting distances. Off the work I do I think he will jump out of the ground over the shorter trips. We have won numerous Highway Races in the past and I think this guy will start a hot favourite when we get him there, and long term my plan is to try and get him into the $1.2m Kosciusko over the Sydney Spring Carnival.” – Luke Murrell

Australian Bloodstock has sent numerous horses to up-and-coming young trainer Cody Morgan who will also train Macleay.

“He [Cody Morgan] is the best young trainer in Australia and with the consistent injection of funds into country prize-money there is incentive to have your horses trained in the bush. We bring a lot of owners into these horses and they head to the races to cheer them home, it’s great for country racing.” – Luke Murrell

Australian Bloodstock has had unbridled success with their tried horse purchases with them being “Very low risk” according to Luke Murrell.

Horses like Ligulate, Ironclad and Tactical Advantage have all won multiple races and given their connections huge enjoyment.

Looking forward to seeing Macleay hit the track under Cody Morgan.
